House-builder Taylor Woodrow turns to the US for development opportunities
Bank of England base rate spells disaster - August News - £Million homes are selling at a rate of 14 a day
Housebuilders Taylor Woodrow, the UK's biggest housebuilder with 10,000 new homes a year, has warned that planning bottlenecks and rising interest rates could prove problematic for any future housing projects as planning approval takes so long. The UK has such a backlog of planning approvals it could take as long as six years to gain approval and this is causing problems to builders who need to know well in advance what their building scheduals are. The Government has already estimated that there is a need for 209,000 new homes needed to be built in England each year between 2003 and 2006, however, just 155,000 homes were built in 2005. Taylor Woodrow have already taken their business to the US where planning permission is granted much quicker and easier.
